The Early Struggles
About 4/5 weeks ago I first stepped into the world of Hyrox, I felt like a fish out of water. The sessions were light, but my struggles were anything but. Burpees and lunges seemed like insurmountable obstacles. Yet, here I am, writing about my progress and newfound confidence. Let’s dive into my journey.
Burpees and Lunges
Burpees and lunges – two words that haunt my Hyrox sessions. I’d collapse after a few burpees, gasping for air. Lunges felt like my legs were made of lead. But they say strength training benefits running, right? I was sceptical. How could these gruelling exercises help me run better?
Walking vs. Running
After those initial sessions, I’d hobble out of the gym. Walking was a challenge, let alone running. Doubts crept in. Was this worth it? But I persisted. Slowly, I noticed changes. My legs felt less wobbly after lunges. Burpees became slightly less dreadful. Progress, even if tiny, fuelled my determination.
Building Strength
From Struggle to 10kg Bags (Sand)
I pushed myself. Lunges became manageable. Then, I added a 10kg bag – a milestone. The weight felt heavy, but I carried it. My legs protested, but they grew stronger. Each session, I pushed boundaries. Burpees no longer left me breathless. I was building resilience.
40m Lunges with a 20kg Bag (Sand)
Recently, I achieved a new feat: 40m lunges with a 20kg bag strapped to my back. Victory! The gym echoed with my triumphant breaths. I felt like a warrior. Hyrox was transforming me – physically and mentally.
Confidence and the Half Marathon
Feeling Stronger
Hyrox sessions no longer intimidated me. I felt stronger, more capable. Those lunges weren’t just exercises; they were stepping stones. Confidence bloomed. I knew I could conquer more.
The Half Marathon Challenge
In two weeks, I have a half marathon. I haven’t logged as many miles as I would normally, but I’m hoping my secret weapon is Hyrox. The strength training I believe will carry me through. I am looking at completing it in under 2 hours. It’s ambitious, but so was my first lunge with a sand bag.
Expanding the Training Regimen
Swimming and Event Replication
Now, I’m adding swimming to my routine. Swimming – a new challenge, a new opportunity. Im also educating myself with the Hyrox stations requirements to inspire me. I want to bring more Hyrox event replication into my training.
Weekly Updates Ahead
Documenting Progress and Struggles
I’ll share my journey weekly. The highs, the lows, the sore muscles – it’s all part of the process. Join me as I chase my goals, one lunge at a time.
Remember, every step counts. Whether it’s a lunge or a marathon, progress is progress. Keep pushing, and soon, you’ll surprise yourself.
